Meissen manufactory, swords underglaze blue, 3 cuts, designed by August Gaul 1922, model no. A 1050, lying "Young Lion", white porcelain, rectangular base sign. and best., approx. 27 x 37 cm, Pfeiffer period 1924-34; Draft 1916 probably for the art collector Max Meirowsky. Only after Gaul's death was the bronze cast transferred to porcelain and Böttger stoneware. The number of formations is unknown; August Gaul (1869-1921), animal sculptor and graphic artist, studied at the Academy in Hanau and Berlin, 1894-1898 worked in the studio of Reinhold Begas, member of the Berlin Secession and the German Werkbund, 1908 professor, he was one of the greatest German animal sculptors of his time, from his estate the Meissner manufactory acquired 20 ornamental figures in 1922.
