Kollwitz, Käthe (1867 Koenigsberg - 1945 Moritzburg)

Lot 2006 limit € 50

Collotype, "Child's head in the hands of the mother", child's study for "Terrified", facsimile after a pencil drawing from 1900 (the original in the print room of the Dresden State Art Collection), probably from the so-called Richter portfolio published in 1920, signed in the print and dated 1900, signs of age (among other things stained, heavily creased, soiled), sheet approx. 27 x 30.5 cm. In 1920 Käthe Kollwitz decided to put together a total of 24 selected drawings - a very personally selected cross-section of her work - for a portfolio. It is called the "Richter portfolio" after the publisher of the portfolio. The portfolio appeared in 3 editions, which differed in the size of the passe-partouts and the boxes. The edition is unknown, as is the price at the time. Only a few complete portfolios are known, often the sheets were later sold individually. High-quality collotype enabled the "faithful reproduction" (see press release of the Köln Nachrichten of June 13, 2013).
