4 copper engravings, representation of the four evangelists, Matthew with angel, Mark with lion, Luke with bull and John with eagle, each monogrammed in print AG for Aldegrever with date 1539 and GP for Georg Pencz (as inventor of the representations), signs of age (on plate edge trimmed, partly slightly waterstained or foxed, old rest.), in the depiction of John on the reverse. Stamp of the Kupferstichkabinett Stuttgart and Kupferstichkabinett Stuttgart Stamp lifted, partially applied to firm paper, each framed behind glass in a narrow silver bar, each sheet approx. 11.5 x 8 cm, with frame approx. 18.5 x 14 cm, Aldegrever belongs to the group of so-called Kleinmeister in the first half of the 16th century, who produced small prints, some only the size of stamps, but executed them in great detail.
