In addition to concrete and bronze, Brockhage primarily used wood as a traditional material from his homeland in the Ore Mountains. The often only roughly hewn trunks from which he created his works of art always reflect the peculiarities of the natural material. Conceived for outdoor installation, the present figure was exposed to the cycle of the seasons and accordingly shows an age patina intended by the artist. Brockhage formulated it in 2004 in his publication Handling Wood as follows: "The landscape of the Ore Mountains, in which I live, is simple in its essence. Crystals can be found, basalt cones - mountains in the immediate vicinity. Here wood grows again and again. Even in the decay it retains its beauty, I think."
