Bronze, black patina, pair of songbirds sitting on a budding branch, structured base plate, inscribed "3.5", unsigned, tail feathers of the upper bird with minor casting defect, total height approx. 20.5 cm, early 20th century; Studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin, stayed in Paris until 1914, returned to Berlin after the First World War. Schmidt-Hofer is regarded as the leading sculptor of his time and is best known for numerous figures of dancers and athletes
