Magnificent peacock based on the Meissen model

Lot 2515 limit € 2.400

Plaster, glazed creamy white, striding peacock with raised feather wheel, fully sculpted, cast after the Meissner porcelain model, stand damaged, feather crown and feather wheel 1 x damaged, approx. 110 x 90 x 45 cm, in addition base with grain veneer, approx. 50 x 49x4cm; Monumental animal figure based on the model by the well-known Meissen modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler (design 1734, model no. 114). The animal figures that Kaendler created mostly in collaboration with Johann Gottlieb Kirchner for the furnishings of the Japanese Palace in Dresden are among the highlights of European porcelain art. The peacock was modeled life-size by Kaendler, probably based on an animal from the royal animal menagerie. Among the monumental animal figures, he was the largest. During Kaendler's lifetime, the peacock figure was executed four times, two of which can be seen in the porcelain collection in the Dresden Zwinger
