Big Paduan rooster

Lot 4400 limit € 10.000

Meissen manufactory, swords underglaze blue, 1st choice, model by Johann Joachim Kaendler 1734, revised by Ernst August Leuteritz 1854, model no. B 144, larger-than-life depiction of a crowing rooster standing on a bundle of corn, glazed white, from the series of large animal figures, very nicely preserved, H approx. 75 cm, Pfeiffer period 1924-34. The Paduan rooster was designed by JJ Kaendler in the early 1730s for the Japanese Palace in Dresden. The extremely difficult to produce and rare large animal sculpture was artistically revised by Ernst August Leuteritz in the second half of the 19th century. The large figure presented here was formed under the aegis of Max Adolf Pfeiffer, director of the Meissner Porzellanmanufaktur since 1918. In addition to the technological and artistic modernization of the manufactory, Pfeiffer endeavored to maintain the unique Meissner tradition. He initiated the reshaping and reworking of numerous models and decors from the 18th century and did not shy away from reshaping the large figures, which were extremely difficult to fire.
