Oil/canvas, The dancer Saharet, signed lower left and dated 1899, rs. old gallery sticker Heinemann Munich, gold structure frame, approx. 183.5 x 85 cm, with frame approx. 200 x 100 cm. Franz von Lenbach earned himself the nickname painter prince because he was known for the special effect and radiance of his portraits. In addition to his own family, the artist portrayed personalities from politics, culture and society of his time. The offered painting shows the Melbourne-born Clarissa Rose Campell (1878-1942), who became known as a dancer in Europe under the stage name Saharet. Lenbach is said to have a particularly close relationship with the dancer. The painting was widely distributed because the artist used it as a template for her performances in the form of printed posters without Lenbach's consent.
