Opitz, Kurt (1887 Neustadt near Leipzig - 1968 Leipzig)

Pencil drawing on cream-colored paper, seated nude in profile with the upper body bent forward, signs of age, sheet section approx. 35.5 x 23 cm, with frame approx. 50.5 x 40.5 cm, studied commercial art with Max Schwimmer at the Royal Art Academy in Dresden . He was a contemporary and friend of many well-known Leipzig graphic artists and painters such as Emil Bock and Georg Kretzschmar. Opitz was represented at exhibitions, among others, in the Künstlerhaus on Nikischplatz in August 1935 and at the 6th Wurzen Art Exhibition in November 1940. His style of painting ranges from Impressionism and Art Nouveau to Expressionism and Naturalism. In addition to scientific and anatomical subjects, his book illustrations also include the Rübezahl fairy tales and several book illustrations for the Max-Koch-Verlag Leipzig. Since 1952 Opitz belonged to the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBKD) in the applied graphics section in Leipzig.
