Meissen manufactory, swords underglaze blue, 1st choice, model by Michel Victor Acier 1774/75, model no. E 77, Les douceurs de lenfance / Die Gentleness of Childhood, counterpart to the group Amusement de lenfance (cf. cat no. 4547), a small child resting on a canapé with a dog, colorfully painted, slightly decorated with gold, slightly rest., slightly dam. 19 cm, L approx. 20 cm, pommel swords mid-19th century to 1923, see Countess von Spee, 2004, cat. no. 40: Acier designed two counterparts, entitled Amusement de lenfance and Les douceurs de lenfance (cat. 37), depicting the joys of childhood. Thematically, these groups followed the Jean Jacques Rousseau-based reassessment of child rearing and childhood, and thus corresponded to the sentiment of the time. A boy, aged one and a half according to Acier, sits on the edge of a Louis XVI cradle.
