Bronze, dark brown patina, lying panther, rectangular base plate, ibid. Artist's signature, foundry mark Heinze & Barth Berlin, approx. 29 x 53.5 x 23 cm, 1930s, from 1907 apprenticeship as a sculptor in Berlin, 1908-12 studies at the KGS Munich and KA Berlin, 1917 invalidated after being severely wounded in WWI, member of the Berlin November Group, 1919 married to the sculptor Emy Roeder, acquainted with Käthe Kollwitz, Ernst Barlach and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, 1933 Rome Prize winner, since 1936 artistic director of the Städelschule in Frankfurt /Main, but increasingly defamed under the Nazi regime, 1937 represented at the exhibition "Degenerate Art", 1938 suspended from teaching, 1943 escape to Dorlisheim/Alsace, Garbe died in 1945 in Rennes in a civilian internment camp
