Sigi - Löw memorial expedition to Nanga Parbat 1970
Lot 9003
limit € 20
3 postcards in total, franked, used, expedition - additional stamp and the signatures of the participants (including Messner), the expedition wanted to climb the Nanga Parbat (8125 m) for the first time over its 4500 meter high south face, the so-called Rupalwand. It was founded by the German Institute for Foreign Research under the chairmanship of Dr. Organized and managed by Karl M. Herrligkoffer. The name was chosen in honor of Sigi Löw, who died in 1962 in the Diamir flank on Nanga Parbat. Four climbers succeeded: the brothers Reinhold and Günther Messner on June 27, 1970, and Felix Kuen and Peter Scholz the next day. The expedition is still much discussed today, not only because of the performance of the expedition members, but also in relation to the circumstances of Günther Messner's death.
