Cerný, Karel (1910 Brno - 1960 Prague)

Lot 1806 limit € 550

colored pastel chalk, horses in front of modern architecture as a symbol of the contrast between man and nature, signed and dated (19)57 in lead lower right, framed behind glass in a passe-partout, signs of age, approx. 22 x 25 cm, with framing approx. 34 x 36 cm, "After an apprenticeship as a printer mechanic in Prague, he studied at the Ukrainian Academy. Then he studied painting and graphics in Prague from 1933-36. Here C. soon found himself in close contact with numerous artists and writers, some of whom had already established themselves, who were continued to have a lasting impact on his work. His works, which were related to the socio-realism of the 1920s, were almost completely destroyed by C. The works created after that reveal the influence of French art, especially Cubism and Fauvism. C.'s painting is characterized by a sensitive poetic approach of everyday life, which as a guiding theme is based on the constant threat to one's own existence."
