Watercolor/laid paper, landscape with a red house, staffage, signed in pencil lower left and dated 1951, behind glass in the passe-partout, minor signs of age, section approx. 46 x 61 cm, studied at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden. 1919-24 studies at the art academy in Dresden with Ferdinand Dorsch. From 1924 freelance painter. Friendship with Karl Körner and Paul Wilhelm. 1925 study trip to Romania, which had a lasting impact on his late work. 1934 Rejection of an appointment to the Dresden Art Academy by the Nazi regime. 1938 study trip to Italy. 1940-45 military service in Kraków. During the air raid on Dresden in 1945, his studio was destroyed along with almost all of his previous work. 1969 member of the GDR Academy of Arts. 1987 Honorary Senator of the Dresden Academy of Art.
