The Swedish-born sculptor Otto Jarl (1856-1915) studied in Stockholm and Vienna. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Meissen manufactory took over a number of animal and hunter figures from his hand, with the polar bear, made in two sizes, enjoying great popularity.
