Manufacturer: Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst, Volkstedt, 1 grinding line, model by Gustav Oppel 1920, cream-coloured glazed, lady reclining on a chaise longue, on the back rest a youth with violin, artist's signature on the flat oval base, model no. U 350, violin bow and neck damaged, H approx. 26 cm, L approx. 33 cm, after 1926. The sculptor and modeler Gustav Oppel (1891-1978) studied in Dresden, Munich and Berlin and was a student of Joseph Wackerle. From 1915-24 he delivered models to the Schwarzburger workshops, later for the Rosenthal and Fraureuth porcelain factories. In addition to many animal figures, his human designs in particular are of great grace and delicacy.
