Meissen Manufactory, swords underglaze blue, 1st choice, model by Theodor Eichler 1911, dancer with bare breast and wide white glazed cape, face painted in colour, oval base decorated in gold, model no. W 255, good condition, H approx. 27 cm, molding from the original period around/after 1922. Theodor Eichler (1868-1946) worked as an embosser at the Meissner Manufactory from 1894 and completed his studies in sculpture at the Dresdner from 1896-1903 Art Academy with Robert Diez. From 1903 he created models for the manufactory, including above all extremely elegant female figures in Art Nouveau and Art Deco, but also some children's models and farm worker scenes. In addition to the depiction of the famous veil dancer Loie Fuller (1862-1928), there is another figure of a dancer (no. B 256, cf. cat. no. 4008). With the present figure, Th. Eichler has succeeded in a grandiose way in translating the sweeping movement of the robes into porcelain. The dancer inspired a number of artists of her time, including Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Auguste Rodin and Will Bradley.
