Art Nouveau sofa

Lot 7500 limit € 1.800

Design: Richard Riemerschmid, execution: Dresden workshops, model no. 81.5 TUM, mahogany, plain frame with panels that are sunken on the side, subtly curved corners, sand-colored fabric cover (renewed), overall good condition with normal signs of age and wear, approx. 101 x 200 x 72 cm, the sofa is part of the Riemerschmids machine furniture range 1906 and was available in various types of wood, with the version in mahogany being the highest quality. It was presented at the third German arts and crafts exhibition in Dresden in 1906 and in Munich in 1908, among other places. Richard Riemerschmid (1868-1957) was a founding member of the Deutscher Werkbund (1907) and its chairman from 1921-1926. From 1913 to 1924 he was director of the Munich School of Applied Arts. His designs are characterized by clear lines and elegant simplicity. With the machine furniture range, he wanted to make high-quality and comparatively inexpensive furnishings accessible to a broader public. See: Nerdinger, Winfried (ed.): Richard Riemerschmid.
