Lithograph, portrait of a drunkard, signed and dated (19)23 on the plate, signed, dated, titled and inscribed as original lithograph in lead, edges slightly browned, upper edge with minor defects, otherwise good condition, depiction approx. 31, 5 x 24 cm, sheet approx. 50 x 33 cm, Baluschek studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1890. As early as 1895, the Gurlitt Gallery exhibited his paintings and in 1897 he took part in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition with two works. He then became a member of the Berlin Secession. In 1920 his volume of novellas “Revealed Souls” was published, which also made him known as an author. In 1924 he was chairman of the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. When the National Socialists classed him as a "degenerate artist" in 1933, he had to give up his studio due to a lack of commissions and retired.
