Watercolour, Norwegian fjord landscape with boats, signed lower left, framed behind glass, approx. 17.5 x 24 cm, with frame approx. 26.5 x 33 cm, landscape painter, from 1862. Studied at the Städelsches Kunst-Inst. with Jakob Becker; 1863-66 at the Munich Academy; 1866-72 in Karlsruhe with H. Gude. The first marine pictures Fs are created, a subject that he should prefer throughout his life. Study trips to Norway, Normandy, the Netherlands, the Alps and Italy. In 1872 he, meanwhile established as a marine painter, was drawn back to his homeland, where he joined the newly founded Kronberg painters' colony in the Taunus near Frankfurt am Main.
