Bronze, dark brown patina, water carrier, young maid with a yoke on her shoulders, on a rectangular naturalistic base, artist's signature and foundry mark J. Petermann Fondeur Bruxelles on the side, H approx. 54 cm, late 19th century, van der Stappen is considered one of the most important Belgian sculptor of the fin de siècle and Art Nouveau, his most comprehensive sculptural project was the design of the botanical gardens of Brussels with 52 sculptures in 1893, one of his most famous main works was the famous symbolist art nouveau bust Le Sphinx mystérieux in 1897
