Expressive bronze relief by Justus Freiherr von Liebig (1803-1873), head right, titled on the left, under the image signature and date 1837, D approx. 18 cm, Pierre Jean David dAngers received his first drawing lessons from his father, a wood carver. He came to Paris around 1800, initially earning money through stone work, later accepted into the studio of the sculptor Philippe-Laurent Roland, 1810 accepted into the studio of the famous painter Jacques Louis David, 1811 awarded the Prix by the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture de Rome, connected with the study stay in the Villa Medici / Rome, 1828 and 1834 study trips to Weimar, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin and Dresden, resulting in extraordinary busts of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling, Johann Heinrich Dannecker, Ludwig Tieck and Christian Daniel Rauch, the bust of Goethe, a gift from the artist to Goethe in 1831, can now be found in the Weimar library, 1835 - 1837 work on the decoration of the pediment of the Panthéon in Paris, in which he portrayed the most famous men in France, the most complete collection of his work is now in the Louvre, see also the Hessian state bronze relief sarchiv Darmstadt
