Oil/plywood, untitled, expressive depiction of a person with two birds, abstract-figurative use of color and form, signed and dated (19)51 top left, light wood strip, approx. 80 x 91 cm, with frame approx. 90 x 100 cm, the work belongs to the important creative phase from 1948 to 1951 in which Corneille was one of the outstanding members of the international artist group CoBrA (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam), provenance: North German private collection, Dutch painter, sculptor and poet, studied at the Amsterdam Art Academy and was Co-founder of the artists' group CoBrA, 1946 first solo exhibition, in 1947 he joined the artists' movement Reflex with Karel Appel and Constant Nieuwenhuys, 1948 the three artists left and founded the group CoBrA together with other neo-expressionists, from 1949 first trip to Africa, study trips followed later to Asia and America, based in Paris from 1950 until his death, Corneille is considered, alongside Karel Appel, to be the most important Most post-war artists from the Benelux countries, his works are in the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and in the CoBrA Museum (Amstelveen), a large part of his works are in private collections, Corneille was a participant in documenta II 1959 and documenta III in Kassel in 1964
