by Peter Dionis "Chirurgie oder surgical Operations", with a preface or increased and improved edition by Lorenz Heister, Augsburg: Mertz, 1734, 958 pages and additional register, hundreds of illustrations on numerous copper plates, unchecked, half leather, signs of age and wear ( Title is missing, cover damaged, endpaper with owner's note, initially finger-stained, inner joint cracked, but a nice collector's edition according to its age), this very rare German edition represents the main work of surgery of this time, it shows hundreds of surgical instruments on copper plates, Pierre Dionis is considered the founder of modern surgery in France, he was appointed by Louis XIV to head the school for operative surgery founded in 1671 (in the "jardin du roi"), this book vividly describes the sum of his experiences in relation to the operative Craftsmanship and the necessary instruments, the whole thing was increased and revised by by Lorenz Heister, the founder of modern surgery on German soil
