Approx. 41 framed small graphics, special prints based on drawings by Adolph Menzel, which extensively illustrate the "History of Frederick the Great" by Franz Kugler (Leipzig 1840), some with the monogram "AM" on the plate and some with engraver signatures or monograms, including Ritschl, Kretzschmer and Georgy, each framed behind glass in a black lacquered bar, frame dimensions up to approx. 23 x 18 cm, the opulent work by F. Kugler on the life and work of Frederick the Great, published in 1840, was written by the then little-known young Adolph Menzel provided with a total of almost 400 illustrations. Menzel needed almost 4 years for this assignment, for which he traveled to original locations and made hundreds of sketches. Various engravers skilfully and vividly converted his templates into wood engravings.
