Oil/cardboard, "Nach dem Kirchgang", signed lower right "Z 8143", verso reference to the artist group Zero, framed, approx. 35 x 28 cm, with frame approx. 52 x 41 cm, "ZERO" was a Düsseldorf artist group officially founded on April 24, 1958 by Hein Mack and Otto Piene. In 1961 Günther Uecker joined. Mack and Piene saw post-war art "loaded with an excess of ballast". The artists were looking for a new beginning, a "zero hour" unencumbered by the past. The group disbanded in 1966 after the artistic and biographical paths of its members parted.
