Meissen manufactory, swords underglaze blue, 4 cuts through, Ernst Julius Hähnel model, model no. N 145, seated Hygieia, holding a sheet of paper with the Hippocrates oath, a book and a bowl with a snake, white porcelain, the base has a hairline crack and 2 fire cracks, the lower back corner is damaged, H approx. 44 cm, a rare formed figure, 1934-47 . The sculptor Ernst Hähnel (1811-1891) studied at the academies in Dresden, Munich and Florence. He created numerous sculptures for the buildings of Gottfried Semper in Dresden as well as monuments and portraits in a realism oriented towards classicism. From 1848 he worked as a professor at the Dresden Art Academy and co-founded the Dresden School of Sculpture in the 1860s. The Meissner manufactory acquired a total of 39 models from his hand in the period 1848-1884, mostly scaled-down versions of existing movements. The purchase of the present model took place in 1883, after the plaster model (today's sculpture series Dresden, height approx. 52 cm) had already been made by Hähnel in 1848. Since the same year, the bronze design has adorned the larger-than-life monument to Charles IV in Prague's Old Town at the foot of Charles Bridge.
